The following comes from the "Wings of Honor" website and was posted there Oct. 10, 2008. =========================================================================================== Red Baron II/3D: Sierra switches off Game servers Posted at 23:22 GMT by Gremlin There is an announcement on the Sierra community forums that on 01-Nov-2008 a lot of game servers will be shut down. This is caused by the merger between Blizzard and Activison and the intention to cut costs. *********************************************** Announcement: Sierra Game Servers Closing Down Posted By: Eric@Sierra Created in: System (Global Announcement) Posted: Oct 7, 2008 1:29 PM The following game servers will be shut down as of 11/01/08: 1. Alien vs Predator 2... 14. Red Baron... [full list ommitted here] *********************************************** This step was expected since last year a lot of Sierra game servers were already shut down for example the NASCAR servers. How does this affect Red Baron II/3D? There is speculation that only the 'Red Baron Arcade' server will be affected. But most likely the EAST WON Meta Server for Red Baron II/3D Multiplayer will be affected also as the 10-year-contract between Sierra and World Opponent Network (WON) will cease on 31-Oct-2008 and will not be renewed. If this happens and you intend to play RB3D MMP then you should open up your mplayer.ini file in the RB3D folder and comment out all WON Meta servers in the [MetaServers] section with a preceding // and after that you should add some entries for Meta Servers run by members of the Red Baron 3D Community. It should look like this: [MetaServers] // Server=TCP:rb2.west.won.net:6001 ; CA Titan Server 216.52.220.23 - not working anymore // Server=TCP:rb2.east.won.net:6001 ; NY Titan Server 63.251.143.210 - switched on and off intermittently since 06-Oct-2007 // Server=UDP:dyn-meta.dynamix.com:47801 ; Baron Meta Server - switched off since early 2000 Server=TCP:depotserver.de:6001 ; Longarth's Meta Server Server=TCP:82.95.229.75:6001 ; Rens' Meta Server Server=TCP:66.225.104.67:6001 ; Tiger's Meta Server See also the statement in the Sierra Classics Forum about switching off also various Sierra Forums. There are plans to set up a private site and forum for all Sierra games on www.sierrachest.com. ************************************************ Below is a similar announcement from 12/21/08: Posted at 09:19 GMT by Gremlin The official meta servers for Red Baron II/3D are switched off. Fortunately there are some privately operated meta servers for finding multiplayer games. Please adjust your mplayer.ini file in your Red Baron II/3D main game folder by opening it in a simple text editor and replacing the respective section with the following: [MetaServers] // Server=TCP:rb2.west.won.net:6001 ; CA Titan Server 216.52.220.23 - not working anymore // Server=TCP:rb2.east.won.net:6001 ; NY Titan Server 63.251.143.210 - switched on and off intermittently since 06-Oct-2007 // Server=UDP:dyn-meta.dynamix.com:47801 ; Baron Meta Server - switched off since early 2000 Server=TCP:depotserver.de:6001 ; Longarth's Meta Server Server=TCP:rlgb.xs4all.nl:6001 ; Rens' Meta Server Server=TCP:66.225.104.67:6001 ; Tiger's Meta Server The official servers are commented out by the preceding '//'. This should let you find the mulitplayer servers better and faster. Sunday, 21st December 2008
